2020 & 2021 October Convocation FAQ
When and where is the convocation ceremony going to be held?
The ceremony will be held in University Hall and will start at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, October 17.
When and where should I show up?
You will collect your cap and gown at the Bookstore in Wheelock Hall starting at 9am on October 17th and will need to return it by to the same place by 5pm on October 17th.
To prepare for the processional, graduates will gather at the bottom of Perkin Way on the South side of Main Street by 11:30 to be lined up.
We will not be crossing Main Street.
The processional will begin promptly at 11:50, and the ceremony will begin at noon.
What can I expect from the ceremony?
Graduates will process across the stage in cap and gown with platform guests. They will be lined up alphabetically, not by year nor by program. Your program and grad year will be announced along with your name as you cross the stage.
What information do I need to provide to take part in convocation?
To participate, send the following information to convocation@acadiau.ca by October 1:
- Name (as you would like it announced as you cross the stage)
- Year of graduation
- Program of study
- Height (for your gown)
- Number of guests
- Accessibility requirements, if any.
Will there be a procession?
There will be a procession up Perkins Way. To prepare for the processional, graduates will gather at the bottom of Perkin Way on the South side of Main Street by 11:30 to be lined up.
We will not be crossing Main Street.

How many guests are graduates allowed?
6 guests are allowed per graduate.
Do I pay for regalia and what is included in this?
Regalia includes cap and gown, and this is at no cost to graduates. Be sure to send your height to convocation@acadiau.ca by October 1 to make sure we have a robe set aside for you.

The cap and tassel will be a souvenir for you to keep, but the gown and degree hood will have to be returned to the Bookstore.
Can I order a diploma frame?
A framing station will not be set up at the ceremony, but graduates can order them online or in person at the Wu Welcome Centre (512 Main Street, Wolfville. Open Monday – Friday 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.).
Is there a post-ceremony reception?
Graduates are invited to a Post-Convocation Reception at The Axe from 1:00-3:30 p.m. with food and beverages for you and your guests.
From 5:30-9:00 p.m., come to The Axe, once again, for a bite to eat, music, and celebration with other Graduates of the Last Decade (GOLD) to kick-off Homecoming Weekend.
Why is this ceremony being held now?
Graduating during the COVID-19 pandemic, as the classes of 2020 and 2021 did, was no small feat. Their resilience and dedication deserve to be celebrated!
At the time of their graduation, the Class of 2020 chose to mark their 5-year reunion with a special Convocation ceremony, returning to campus to reconnect and celebrate.
